A Look in the History

The first school in Piltene was already founded in 1570, but a lockal school for Latvian children – in 1844.

In 1953 Piltene 7 – year school was reorganized, it became a secondary school. During the 47 years of its function 706 students have graduated the school.

In 1974 a new three – storeyed building and a gym were built next to the old school building. A new boarding school was constructed in 1978.

There is a good stadium near the school. Even state football championships take place there.

Traditions

Every year before Christmas our schoolchildren take part in the undertaking “Rūķis” (A Dwarf”). During it the students visit old and lonely people in Piltene, a little concert is presented in every home and people get little presents from the students.

Poetry lessons (it is, in September, during the days when people in all Latvia remember our noted poet Rainis; at Christmas; at Easter) we listen to a lyrical performance of students and teachers who recite poems, sing songs and play some musical instruments.

Every autumn – Martin,s Day, it comes together with joy and a musement and sale.

Sports

Sportsmen of our school take part not only in the contests in Latvia, but also abroad and get good results. During the last twenty years more than a hundred state champions in track–and–field-athletics in different age groups have grown up in our school. Two years in a row the young track-and-field-athletes of our school have won the republican cup

In 2001 our school is the best in the republic in cross-country-race.

During the last 7 years the students from our school have taken part in different contests in 9 European countries. We are thankful to our sports teacher Arno Kirshteins for the excellent success of our sportsmen.
